Design Update

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share the latest design update for Thoreau’s Backyard! I’ve been inspired by the incredible support and enthusiasm we’ve seen so far from our community. While there’s still work to do, we’re making great progress, and I’m delighted to show you where things stand.

Our goal is to create a playground that’s inclusive, nature-inspired, and fun for every child. To achieve this, we’re blending thoughtfully chosen manufactured equipment with natural elements, providing kids with a variety of ways to play, explore, and connect.

At either end of the playground, equipment will offer opportunities for active, physical play. Kids can climb, swing, and spin on structures designed to encourage strength, balance, and coordination in a safe and engaging environment. These features are all about movement and energy—perfect for kids seeking a physical challenge.

In the center, a natural, park-like area will create a different kind of play experience. Meandering paths, musical instruments, a sand pit, logs, and stones will create a rich sensory environment to explore. Play houses will invite imaginative adventures, while shaded seating areas will provide a comfortable space for kids and adults to relax and connect.

This playground is coming together as a true reflection of our community’s hard work and shared vision. As we continue refining the design based on community feedback and fundraising progress, we’re one step closer to making this dream a reality.
