More Ways to Support Thoreau’s Backyard: Stocks, DAFs, and Matching Gifts

Dear Thoreau Community,

This is Benjamin Klein – a Concord dad with a fourth grader (Max) and first grader (Nathan) at Thoreau, and one more future Husky (Vivian). It has been truly amazing to see the community’s support for Thoreau’s Backyard, including all of the generous financial donations that have been coming in.

I’d like to share that the Thoreau Parent Teacher Group now has a brokerage account open with Fidelity that can accept donations of in-kind appreciated securities. If you are considering making a donation to Thoreau’s Backyard in this manner, please feel free to email me at benjaminsklein@hotmail.com or the PTG’s Treasurer, John Palusci, with any questions or to receive instructions on how to complete this type of donation.

Thoreau’s Backyard has also received a number of donations from donor advised funds, which has been fantastic. The financial institutions involved with these donations typically mail the checks directly to Thoreau Elementary School and members of the school staff and the PTG are constantly on the look out for them as they come in.

A number of donors have also had success with their employers matching their gift. If you are considering a donation it may be worth exploring whether this is a benefit that your employer provides.
