Welcome to the Thoreau’s Backyard Team!

If you’re reading this, you’re part of something big—our community-wide effort to bring Thoreau’s Backyard playground to life!  With the upper playground being removed, this is our chance to build a special play space for our children now and for children years from now. Whether you just joined our email list (welcome!) or have been following along for a while, we’re so glad you’re here.

Our website has lots of great information including FAQs, a list of donors, design images, and this handy timeline:

$175,000 To Go—We’re in This Together!

We’ve made amazing progress, but we’re not there yet. We have 30% left to raise—about $175,000—to reach our goal, which as you can see from the image above we need to reach this total in the month in order to keep to our schedule.

By now, you should have received our fundraising appeal in the mail, sharing our vision for a brand-new, nature-inspired playground at Thoreau Elementary with the entire town. If you’ve already made a gift—thank you! If you haven’t yet, now is the time to jump in and help us keep the momentum going.

We Need You!

  • Get your name on a fence picket or playground equipment! A $500+ gift adds your family’s name to the playground —something your kids can point to for years to come. You can even buy multiple pickets and bring in grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends! Name a picket or something else here.

  • Upgrade your impact! Already donated? Consider adding to your gift to graduate to the next giving level—or even sponsor a piece of playground equipment!

  • Double your donation! Many employers match gifts—check with yours and make your impact go even further!

  • Spread the word! Put up a yard sign now that the snow is melting.Tell your friends, neighbors, and family about Thoreau’s Backyard and share the donation link: https://www.thoreausbackyard.com/donate.

If you’re thinking you plan to help by helping with the community build – thank you and more on that soon. Our greatest need now however is to close the gap in funds needed to get the materials and equipment for the playground in the first place!

This Playground is For Our Kids—And For Generations to Come

We’ll be breaking ground this summer. By early fall, our kids will be climbing, swinging, zipping and whirling in a nature-inspired play space designed just for them. And years from now, they’ll return to Thoreau and see the names of families—our families—who made it happen.

We are so close. We can only build this together!

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey,

Cristina Aspuru
